I have recently tried out a couple of different linking resources to see how it would affect the rankings of the reverse mortgage websites I tested it on. The good news is that the results of my SEO tests are in and they are very positive.
I was really happy to see results that I did. To top it off the services I used were very affordable.
There are several things to keep in mind if you want to do what I did.
First, don’t expect fast results. In most cases it took a minimum of 30 days for the results to kick in.
Second, you may experience a significant drop in your rankings after you implement this strategy. However, don’t freak out, it is a temporary drop and your site should bounce back and rank better than it did prior to implementing this.
The third thing to keep in mind is that just because this is working today, does not mean it will continue to work into the future
So what did I do and what were the results?
I tested several different sites with paid directories.

As you can see, shortly after I added the links both search terms dropped significantly in the rankings.
The first reverse mortgage search term immediately started bouncing back. As of today it is sitting at #4 for its search term and has been as high as #2. My guess is that within the next couple of weeks it will be in the top 3 spots.
The second reverse mortgage search term stayed pretty steady with the initial drop for quite some time. In fact it took over 30 days for it to start bouncing back. It took two months but it is now sitting at #4 for the search term. This is a significant increase from its previous ranking at #32.
I have tried these links on several other sites and have experienced the same drops and then significant increases in rankings.
All of the sites I tested this on had very few other links built to them. My guess is that if you already have a strong domain name with a a good link profile, you more than likely won’t experience the significant drops that I did.
If you are tracking ranking of your reverse mortgage websites search terms and have pages or search terms that seem to be stalled out or are not ranking as well as you would like. I can say with certainty that you will see a nice increase in rankings with these paid directories.
The service I used is here. I went with the 20 listing package on all of the tests that I performed. I can not tell you if it this would work with the smaller package or larger package. For $40, you really can’t go wrong.
There are some tips I would recommend.
You will want to provide 20 unique titles and 20 unique descriptions for each listing.
This is pretty simple – your titles would be something like:
– Reverse Mortgage (Your City)
– (Your City) Reverse Mortgage
– Reverse Mortgage (Your City) (Full State)
– Reverse Mortgage (Your City) (State Abbreviation)
– Reverse Mortgage Company (Your City)
– Etc.
Your descriptions would be something like:
– Looking for a local reverse mortgage specialist in (Your City). We specialize soley in reverse mortgages. They are all we do. Get advice from a local reverse mortgage expert in (Your City) ( Your State)
– Work with a local (Your City) reverse mortgage expert. Get the insight, knowledge and expertise from someone that specializes in just reverse mortgages. Give us a call today with your questions.
– Etc.
The next test I did and the results are as follows.
This was a little bit different. Both sets of keywords dropped quickly, but they also rebounded much quicker than the other directory I used.
I have tested these directories on a few other sites with similar results.
I am sure you are all probably wondering about the recent drops in rankings. I don’t have an explanation. All I can say is that sites rankings can drop and or increase at the drop of the hat, even if you have done no link building to the websites. I am not worried about the recent drops and am sure they will rebound.
The same advice applies above. Give unique titles and descriptions.
I used this directory to build some relevant links to my sites. There are 4 other directories owned by the same person. In total I got listings in 5 directories. You can negotiate the price, I was able to get all 5 listings for $50.

Some Final Thoughts
I want to make it very clear that just because these links are working now, it does not mean they will work in the future. Google and other search engines are constantly tweaking their algorithms.
